The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Sometimes its unbelievable how creative one's mind can be. Normally I don't like to read fiction thats a little far from reality because it can be hard for me to visualize, but I thought this was an amazing series and I am biting my nails waiting for the third to come out, The Mocking Bird. All thats left of the united states is Panem. In it, lies only twelve districts. A long time ago these districts executed a war against The Capitol only to be defeated. Each district now sends one boy and one girl to a yearly event called, "The Hunger Games." The one boy and girl are chosen at the Reaping. Katniss is sixteen and lives in the poorest district, twelve, with mother and sister, Prim. When her twelve year old sister is called at the Reaping to represent District Twelve in The Hunger Games, Katniss does the only thing that could save her sister; she steps up and takes the place as the female icon for district twelve. Only one can survive.
The Truth About forever by Sarah Dessen
It's been two years since i have read this, but it was also two years ago when I discovered author, Sarah Dessen. She is still one of my favorite authors and she has the greatest affects on my writings. I love how realistic all her stories are and she has such great characters that are easy to root for. in this book, its been a long summer and Marcy's brainiac boyfriend broke up with her over email. The only plan for her summer is to study for the SATs. Completely unplanned for, she got a job at a catering service. She met four other coworkers, one of whom, Wes, she took an interest in. As they get to know each other, they decide to play the Truth game creating rules along the way. Each would get a question to answer. If they didn't answer, it would go to the other person. This was the means of their relationship. Then Marcy asks one question that Wes is stuck with, "What would you do if you could do anything." Of course having to answer with complete honesty, he decides to pass leaving Marcy with this baffling question.
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Sadly, I must say that I watched the movie before I read the book, but only because I discovered the movie first. i am only happy though that i did eventually read this worthwhile book. Since age five, Henry has been time traveling. No there is no need for a time machine. In fact Henry is actually a time machine as himself, but too bad his clothes don't follow. In different years, Henry at different ages will appear stark naked. One things he finds is that, often he'll reappear places that are meaningful in his life. One such place is the meadow. On his first visit to the meadow, he meets a very young girl, named clare. Clare then starts to bring this naked stranger clothes every time he visited. I think this book is AMAZING!! It might even be my favorite, but I choose to have many at first place. This book focus solely on the emotional relationship between Henry who's always leaving, and Clare who has to wait for him for unpredictable amounts of time.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows [seventh book] by J.K. Rowling
I read harry potter in the strangest order! I first began the fourth harry potter at a very young age. It was three times longer than anything that I'd ever read!! I remember getting done with the first half in about a month and still I continued reading. Every time that I'm reading a Harry potter book, I don't feel like I'm reading at all. I get this sensation of being in a whole knew world. J.K. Rowling is with out a doubt one of the most talented writers out there. After reading the Harry Potter series, there are no unanswered questions. J.K. Rowling is amazing with detail and she's consistent with her characters and she connects things back to her first book. When reading through her series many times, you realize that characters that were major by the end were even in the very first book, only they were unnoticeable. THe seventh book was an amazing finale to her series. I have never been fans of series books. Of course after one, I am eager to find out more. But some series books that I've read in the past go on and on and never end!! three or four is good with me. And if and only if you are j.k Rowling, may you continue to write a series indefinitely. I love the Harry Potter serious so much!! Reading them has created a whole new world in my mind!
The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer I first heard of this book in 2006, suggest by my sister. I am disappointed in myself to say, i immediately put it on the shelf, where it stayed for months. Finally, in my free time, I got it out and was immediately hooked! Every little detail was so alluring. I am embarrassed to say that I was completely and utterly in love with the vampire, Edward. One statement that has been passed around is that, after reading Twilight, it completely heightens your standards for guys. Every girl in the United States wanted her own Edward. Stephenie Meyer has created a whole new view of vampires. In actuality, vampires glimmers in the sunlight, don't actually live in coffins and sorry everyone out there, but you cannot chase away a vampire with garlic. you must be a great writer to create a whole new view on a fictional character. Stephenie Meyer is one of my heros!
The Host by Stephenie Meyer
This has undoubtedly been one of my favorite books, ever. In one interview, author, Stephenie Meyer, tells that she would classify this book as a science-fiction for those who don't like science fiction. I would fall right into that category. THe Earth has been taken over by Aliens called souls. They're not the conventional aliens, though. In The Host, the souls are described as small wormlike, white creatures. They are inserted into a human body through the neck. The 'soul' takes over the human mind and controls it. This makes the human body the host. There is a small group of human survivors though all hidden in dessert caves. Melanie Stryder was one of these survivors until she was one day snatched and was inhabited by a souls, but unnaturally she was still present in the mind that now belonged to the soul. Melanie shows the love of her family she used to have and has Wanderer, her soul, falling in love with them too. Together as a team, they search for the hiding humans. The large conflict was weather to kill The host body with the soul inside of it. Jared was Melanie's boyfriend and Jamie was her brother. these were the two most important people in her life. All this time though, Wanderer, the soul inhabiting Melanie, has been keeping a secret. This is a secret that may change the future for this group of surviving humans.
Two Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt
I luckily came about his book online on Amazon.com.I usually using any website that allows me to keep a record of books I've read. And conveniently enough, I get recommendations. And Two way Street happened to be one of them. I really enjoyed how the story was told. It was a completely necessary thing for the situation the characters are in. The other chooses to change point of view of characters but it is all told in first person. This a good technique for this story because it allows the reader to know information that the other character might not know. i loved this book SOOO much. After a terrible and sudden breakup, we follow each character as they take an already planned road trip to college and learn more in detail for the reason of the breakup.
